Sustainability and responsibility

Growing responsibly, one routine at a time.

Responsibility on a farm is practical: safe people, healthy birds, well-managed waste, and careful use of water and energy.

Our responsibility

Who we protect, and how.

We aim to protect the people, birds and property on the farm and the environment around it, through everyday discipline rather than occasional effort.

We aim to protect

  • Employees
  • Visitors
  • Birds
  • Assets
  • The surrounding environment

Through

  • Safe work procedures
  • Training
  • Supervision
  • Housekeeping
  • Prompt reporting of hazards

In practice

Three areas we manage closely.

People and safety

Clear instructions, protective equipment, hygiene controls and maintained buildings, water and electrical systems.

Manure and waste

Planned manure removal, responsible use or disposal, and orderly waste segregation.

Water and energy

Leak inspection and repair, plus increasing use of solar and efficient energy where practical.

Farm outputs

Manure handled as a resource, not a problem.

Poultry manure is removed on a planned schedule and, where stock allows, may be made available for agricultural use. Availability is subject to current stock and approved handling arrangements.

Long-term outlook

Investing in the systems that make growth responsible.

Sowaya is investing in housing, equipment, people and systems that support responsible agricultural growth, so that any expansion arrives with the controls to run it well.
